In February 2008, the AMP Board of Trustees established the goal of developing a program aimed at moving the organization into the top tier of all electric utilities nationally in terms of its percentage of energy needs that will be met through energy efficiency. AMP is working with the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC) to develop an Efficiency Smart program for AMP member communities.
AMP is committed to a multifaceted power supply strategy that includes energy efficiency as an important part of its overall strategy. This will slow the growth of energy use and minimize the environmental impact associated with member community electric demand. VEIC is a recognized leader with extensive experience in energy efficiency program analysis, design, and implementation. The company administers Efficiency Vermont, the nation’s first statewide energy efficiency program.
AMP adopted the name Efficiency Smart for its program and began working to define the scope, services, funding options and other details. Under a two-tiered approach being developed, all member communities would be provided with educational efforts aimed at reducing energy usage. Subscribing communities would become part of the Efficiency Smart Power Plan that would take a more direct approach to reducing load growth. AMP is in negotiations with VEIC to administer this program.
